It was Senior Day for the UW-Superior women’s basketball team this past Saturday and the Lady Yellowjackets were able to send Britnee Blake, the team’s only senior, off on a good note with a 71–66 victory over UW-La Crosse.
The Lady Yellowjackets got back to playing stingy defense, holding La Crosse to 66 points on 36.5% shooting from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc. Despite shooting 32.8% as a team, UWS only committed nine turnovers and hit six more free-throws than La Crosse, en route to the victory. Sally Linzmeier recorded her 10th double-double of the season, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Deandra Vavra had 14 points and Grace Kennedy scored 11 points to help Linzmeier. Rachel Atchison led La Crosse with 17 points.
More importantly, the victory moves UWS back into 4th place, ahead of UW-Platteville. With two games to go in the regular season, UWS might have to win-out in order to secure the 4th spot if they hope to host a home playoff game for the second year in a row. The Lady Yellowjackets are on the road on Wednesday as they travel to UW-River Falls, a team they have already beaten this season.
