While a lot of UWS students were at home or on vacation for spring break, our women’s softball team was doing neither. Instead, the UWS Lady Jackets were fighting for victories in the Sunshine State of Florida.
After getting off to a rocky start over their first five games (1–4), the Lady Jackets were able to turn things around over the next 12 games. UWS was able to win eight of them, including the last four in a row with three of the wins coming via shutouts. The Lady Jackets got strong pitching performances from Amanda Le Bard and Nicolle Gross over the four-game winning streak. Ashley Martin leads all Lady Jacket hitters in batting average (.425), slugging percentage (.600), hits (17), and runs scored (12).
After the 8–4 road trip, the Lady Jackets improved their overall record to 9–8 on the season. From here on out, the Lady Jackets are slated to play 16 of their next 20 games against conference opponents. Thankfully, the weather has been nicer as of late, but it takes a few days to prep the field in order for it to be in playing condition. The Lady Jackets’ next game is slated for Saturday, April 6th at UW-Stevens Point.
