Yellowjackets open postseason against rival St. Scholastica

The UW-Superior men’s hockey team will travel across the bridge to play St. Scholastica on Friday and Saturday night in the first round of the NCHA playoffs. This marks the Jackets and Saints fourth meeting this season. The Yellowjackets lead the season series by a 2-1 advantage.

“We’re feeling good,” says junior forward Pat Dalbec. “We like the matchup with Scholastica and we have seen success against them this year”.

Dalbec is the team’s leading scorer with 15 goals and 12 assists for a total of 27 points. He says hard work has led to their success this season.

The playoff format is a best-of-three with a small twist. Instead of playing three full games, if the teams each have one win after two games, a 20 minute mini-game immediately follows Saturday night’s contest. The Yellowjackets lost to UW-Stevens Point in the mini-game last year. That makes winning the first two games much more important says Dalbec.

“It’s very important. Being that the mini game is only a 20 minute game it allows for anything to happen.”

UWS defeated Scholastica at home in the 2010-11 NCHA playoffs.

Dalbec is confident the Yellowjackets will prevail this weekend in the postseason contest.

“If we come out Friday and give a good effort for 60 minutes, I’m confident we’ll come out on top,” says Dalbec.

The games are set for a 7:05 PM puck drop Friday and Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.
