Yellowjackets stung by Pointers

The UWS men basketball team let a conference win slip away from them on Saturday afternoon. The men were lead by Jarrod Peterson and his 26 point performance but it was all for nothing as it came in a loss.

Peterson was off to a hot start scoring 20 of his 26 in the first half but the UW-Stevens Point Pointers held him to a mere six points in the second half. The Yellowjackets held a three point lead going into the locker room at halftime and an eight point lead with 14 minutes left in the game.

Brunson Byrne passing the ball after a rebound Saturday.

The Pointers weren’t about to be held under though as they latched onto the scoring of their left handed standout Tyler Tillema. The Pointers scored nine straight points to take the lead 49–48 with 11 minutes left in the game. The Yellowjackets got three free throws from Peterson to retake the lead 51–48 but that was short lived and that was the last time the Yellowjackets tasted the lead.

Brunson Byrne also was a big contributor for the Yellowjackets, scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds. Johnquez Brooks also chipped in 12 points for the Yellowjackets in the loss. The men got beat up on the turnovers, and the Pointers were able to score 20 points off those turnovers. The men also got outscored on second chance points and bench points.

UWS will play home against UW-Stout, game time is 7. The Yellowjackets are 2–4 on the season.
