The Yellowjacket men started their basketball season Thursday night with a huge win over the Northland College Lumberjacks. In an electrifying atmosphere the men showed what a long preseason can produce, wins.
The team was lead by Jarrod Peterson as he scorched the net for 25 points, including five-three point shots and an outstanding bounce pass to Aaron Corry who would dunk it home and get the crowd on their feet. Corry finished the game in double digits as well scoring 10 points in 19 minutes of action.
Austin Cahil was the final Yellowjacket to score in double digits, notching 13 points in 15 minutes of play. Seniors Trent Davis and Brendan Bauer added seven and five points respectively. Davis did more than numbers show though, being a senior leader and directing traffic on offense and defense.
The Lumberjacks were lead by Carnell Sheppard who scored 20 points for Northland and Adrian Flores who scored 10 points in the game. No other Lumberjacks were able to reach double digits in scoring and the stifling defense of the Yellowjackets held the Lumberjacks to 33.9 percent shooting from the field and a mere 23.8 percent from the three-point line.
The Yellowjackets will host Augsburg Monday night, tip is set for 7 p.m.
