More than 120 people gathered Friday evening at the YU for the first Open Mic Night of the school year. A bigger crowd of over twenty students signed up to perform, which is more than any other night in the four years since Open Mic Night began.
Students showcased a variety of talent including poetry, singing, dancing, impersonations, guitar playing, and piano solos. The audience added to the energetic atmosphere by dancing, clapping, and cheering on the performers. The environment was very laid back and supportive.
Open Mic Night regular, Ayoub Dib said, “Everyone forgets about their homework for the most part and just comes and has a good time… It’s a good thing. Most people look forward to it.”
Open Mic Night is held every month at the Yellowjacket Union Shippar Atrium and it is free of charge. The next one will be on Friday October 19th at 8:00 PM. If you are interested in performing, signup begins at 7:00 PM.
